An inaugural hui focused on advancing Māori-led energy futures in Aotearoa will be held in New Plymouth.

From October 14-15, the National Māori Energy Summit will take place, bringing iwi, organisations and industry leaders together.

Across the two days, a range of topics will be covered, including eliminating energy hardship and enabling Māori investment in renewable energy.

A First Nations group from Australian’s Northern Territory will also share its experience of building a clean and energy resilient community.

Included in the speaking line-up for the event, which will be held at The Devon Hotel, is Jamie Tuuta, who heads up the Iwi Chairs Forum, Todd Moyle, chief executive of Ngāi Tahu Holdings, and Gina Rangi of Tuaropaki Trust, a Taupō-based entity which was an early developer of geothermal power.

Prior to the two-day summit, a one-day session will be held at Waitara’s Owae Marae on October 13.
