He Kōrero Whakapapa – The Founding of the National Iwi Chairs Forum
In response to the challenges of the Foreshore and Seabed Act 2004, iwi leaders came together—led by Tā Mark Solomon and supported by the late Dame Te Atairangikaahu—to lay the foundations for what would become the National Iwi Chairs Forum.
Grounded in mana motuhake and kotahitanga, the Forum was never about making decisions for iwi, but about creating a space with iwi to uplift whānau, hapū and iwi across Aotearoa.
From Takahanga Marae to hui across the motu, the Forum continues to honour its founding vision: iwi-led, kaupapa-driven, and accountable to our people.
